Marsha Harris
September 2006

Marsha Harris, from Morehead City, joined the group after being introduced by Mike Parker in 2004. She plays the mountain dulcimer, the bowed dulcimer as well as fiddle and tenor banjo.

Marsha began playing in 1995 and enjoys many styles of music from traditional fiddle tunes, Celtic to swing tunes on the mountain dulcimer.
Marsha plays in several music groups; The Carteret Grays and The Huckleberry Brothers, both Civil War reenactment music groups, and The Bogue Sounds, an eclectic group of musicians.
Composing original tunes and her arrangements of oldies are of interest. Marsha travels to fiddle and dulcimer festivals and she has won mountain dulcimer awards at the Mt. Airy Fiddler's Convention and the championship at the Fiddler’s Grove Convention.
When not playing for contra dances, she can be heard calling the dances. She is looking forward to her retirement from the school system in her hometown so she can spend more time teaching at dulcimer workshops, continue to attend and compete in dulcimer competitions, fiddle festivals and travel with her husband. Marsha is currently working on her first dulcimer CD of original and traditional tunes.
